We woke this morning at 6:30 with a plan: breakfast, laundry, then pack, one last beer before trail and then hit the trail.
Breakfast was across the street from our room at Seven Suns Cafe- their coffee is what my dreams are made from!
Next we went back to the room and got our laundry- the laundromat opens at 7am. Nice! So back to the room to pack and out by check out.
We walked the few blocks to the main part of town, browsed the local gear stores (we love checking the Hiker boxes- one hikers trash is another’s treasure). By lunch time we decided to hit up a bar and get a beer and some food and then head out.
We went to the Vets Club, and the ‘one beer’ turned into a day of drinking. But not by our own volition. As soon as walked in with our packs the handful of older men at the bar turned to look is over- one after the other wanted to chat, they bought us beer, I played the juke box, we didn’t sit in a chair for a single minute- we were constantly being hailed over to talk about our trip. It’s like we’re celebrities! It’s amazing, the generosity is shocking. We didn’t pay for a single beer- although we tried!
The couple that we chatted with for most of the day offered us a ride to the trail- it was 20 min away!
Along the way, they stop and buy us sandwiches (we tried to pay).
The drive was full of my tunes that they requested- America- “Ventura Highway”, George Harrison- “If Not For You”, Poco- “Crazy Love”, John Denver- “Rocky Mountain High”, The Rolling Stones - “Street Fighting Band” “Wild Horses”, the drive with the windows down the good tunes playing was bliss!
We finally get to the trail, and Tim whips out a bottle of champagne! We have a toast before we head out, what a fun day!
Since we spent the day drinking, we were not trail ready mentally or physically, so we only put in 2 miles!
