PCT Day 66 - Trinity Wilderness

Joe described today best, he said today felt like a fall day in Missouri. It was a bright morning, chilly, the air crisp, the only thing missing was football!
The trail was rocky, lots of ridge walking, Boulder fields and little stream crossings. There’s still a lot of snow melt above and ahead of us.
We hiked away from Shasta to the East, and towards the snowy, rocky Trinity Alps to the west.

As we hiked this morning we came across a doe and her twins fawns. They were on trail for a good 300 yards. We followed them; we had no choice in the matter. At one point, one of the babies ran down trail right up to us, then turned and jumped away playfully- reminded me of a baby goat! Then a minute or so after the other one did the same! Joe was able to catch the second one on camera. It run up to us- about 5 feet away, then turned and bounded back towards mama. It was the sweetest thing!

The scenery in Trinity Wilderness is unbelievable; picturesque and idyllic. It seemed as though I had just walked into a king’s Garden- there were giant old pines with lichen and moss, meadows, blooming flowers of shades of red, gold, green, boulders positioned just where they should be, and a waterfall. I couldn’t take my eyes off what was before me. I was overcome with the serene beauty of something that was so raw but seemed tame and familiar. The landscape seemed so manicured. I’ve never seen grass so green.

We made it to camp after 3 grueling uphill miles, but the views were stellar. We had a lovely sunset- cotton candy skies.
