We arrive at Timberline Lodge around 11 AM, and the final climb was gorgeous with Mount Hood in full view, but the trail was not. The trail was loose sand, it made the climb more difficult than it should be. Thankfully the weather was perfect (it was misty and quite chilly (very northern Oregon) in the morning but quickly clearing up), not too hot for the climb. And with each step the Lodge came more in view.
Joe and I decided to not splurge on an overpriced room at the “Overlook Hotel” from the film The Shining, and decided on a tent spot just on the outskirts of Timberline Lodge area, shortly after we go to the Rams Head Bar upstairs in the lodge and have a couple beers and a pretzel with kielbasa. After lunch we take a short nap in the tent and then it’s time for dinner at the blue ox downstairs at the lodge; pizza and more beer. Jenny and Peter showed up after dinner, we had a great evening chatting and swapping stories. It’s awesome running into trail friends who flipped.
