We have 10 miles to hike, then a 10 mile hitch into the town of Etna. We’re hoping the town will have some sort of celebration for the holiday.
We finished our 10 miles by 10am- there was only one section of about 30 yards of steep snow. It took a bit of time, a couple falls, but we made it.
Scott, a Canadian American picked us up after about 10 minutes waiting for a car to pass by. He was the first car and the winner. :) he offered us a road beer and gave us a tour of Etna. He was in town for a summer holiday with his family. He had to get into Etna to resupply- like us.
He unfortunately broke the news that Etna is a sleepy town and will not have a parade, and it was likely everything would be closed. :(
He dropped us off at the city park where PCTers can camp for $5. It was the perfect camp- they had a shower, lockers, and a charging station, oh and of course- the luxurious picnic tables!
We walked around town after we settled into the park, and found Paystreak Brewing was open all day, but they had sold out of all their beers. Instead we enjoyed some other CA and OR brews.
